How can I protect my Yorkie from the dog nappers?

LadySnowbird asked:

Pet thefts rise as economy hits dog-gone low…dognappers are stealing pets for quick profit. Yorkshire terriers were among four stolen from a Los Angeles home after two armed men forced their way in.

She is microchipped. She is only 4 pounds and the tag the vet gave me is too large for her collar.

Never leave her outside alone. Not even for a minute. Keep her on a leash at all times when outside.

This is very simple…don’t leave your dog outside alone.

Get a different tag for the dog, one that is a little bit smaller.

As for people forcing their way into the house…get one of those chains, don’t ever open your door to strangers, get a peep hole, etc.

keep her leashed at all times outside, don’t leave her unsupervised in the yard or to wander around outside unattended. Do not leave her in your car when you go to the store. I heard of someone having their window broken and both yorkies stolen out of her vehicle, she got the dogs back but the dogs were mentally messed up after the ordeal.

    It’s all you can do.

the microchip is a great ideal but better then that ALWAYS stay with your dog and never let them alone by themselves, I have a Chihuahua and I am always with her. Get her a smaller tag but If the dog is stolen for profit no tag or anything is going to help, that happen to my chow when he was a puppy but there game was to call me and tell me they found him, he was 15 miles from home, I gave them 100.00 and they tried to get more money so I just grappled the puppy out of their hand and called the police. I took the police to the house where my dog was but they wouldn’t do nothing. Just keep your ears and eyes open, good luck.

That is really low even for a thief.. I never leave my dogs alone out side or in the car and they are Rotties(very friendly and would give a thief their favorite toy to play with)

That is a sad story and what does it say about our society ? I’d take Every precaution and NOT leave her alone outside unattended. Maybe get a house alarm installed so that when you are Not home, there is some protection. Also get a sign to post outside with a picture of a BIG, mean dog to deter them. Also keep the backyard gate Locked so deter people from entering your property easily.
